Long-distance move from El Dorado Hills, CA to Provo, UT

ZERO STARS Thieves!!!! DO NOT USE.

Initial quote $4100 for 3 bed 2 bath. Was told I had a lot of furniture and bumped it to $6100 before they would begin loading. I felt trapped, new owners took possession in 2 days. Broker driver said I could use debit card to pay $2000. About 1/3 of my things were loaded and then the broker tells me if they fill half the truck it’s $12,000 and full truck $25,000!! WTF!!!! My head exploded. These pieces of shit saw I had a nice house and furniture and flagrantly increased the price. I was so angry about what was happening and I didn’t know how to get out of it. I called out the broker for bait and switch. Told him I wouldn’t pay any more than $6100. I told him to pull off items so it wouldn’t exceed this “bogus” amount. The truck was now about 1/3 full. He kept calling his boss and came back to me and said since the truck wasn’t full it was considered a quick turn around so there would be additional charges. At this point The total was at $8900! I wish, wish I had them empty the truck and just forfeit my $2300 deposit, but being under duress, I was worn down and continued to be taken advantage of.

I tried to use my debit card, but was told now I had to pay with a cashiers check. Absolutely infuriated at this point. Broker said I would need to pay today or they couldn’t start driving to Utah. Met him at Walmart, it was Sunday, banks closed. My attempts to take $ from my acct failed. I was capped at $2000 for cashiers check or money order. I lost my temper with driver and asked him how he could live with himself or look in the mirror stealing peoples money. All the extra money required was for my family to live on for the month.. I honestly haven’t been that angry In a long time.

I was incensed that vulnerable people going through such a difficult thing as a move were being taken advantage of. I was told my things would go into storage, on my dime, if I didn’t pay the money by the next morning. I was being extorted by them threatening to hold my things hostage until I paid. I felt like I was in a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.

I had to get a cashiers check at my bank and deposit it into “the bosses” account and take a pic of deposit to prove I had done it before he would “release” his drivers to leave CA headed for Utah, I Was told by the boss that delivery was in two days…. Lie. He couldn’t send an almost empty truck, so his driver went to L.A., emptied another house, packed their crap in front of mine and then delivered it to Boise Idaho before coming to my house. Delivery was two days late. As for the other 2/3 of my house that didn’t go with the criminals, I rented a uhaul and my kids loaded it and took it to a storage unit. Three weeks since the traumatizing shake down and we still haven’t been able to drive the Uhaul to our Utah house. I’m so angry about being taken advantage of and having my hard earned money stolen by these low life scum bags. Research research, research!! United Van lines and Mayflower are the reputable moving companies and they don’t use brokers who can set their own prices and rules and continually change what they’ve said in order to suit themselves. Beware USA LOGISTICS. These are the brokers who stole from me. They bid on jobs through First Rate Van Lines. DON’T USE A MOVING BROKER YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!

First Rate Van Lines

THIS IS A SCAM! Please beware. (All positive reviews on Google are fakes - coming directly from Florida. Just click on the name and you'll see where they are located)

I originally spoke with Jeremy who sold me a contract for $2500, which is what got me hooked into their snare. Two weeks later, James in the QA dept told me they had underestimated and now I owed them $4000.

When the contracted movers showed up, they wanted to charge me an extra $1100 on the spot for reasons that later proved to be bogus. When we questioned the foreman about the sudden jump in price, she yelled at us, cussing and calling us awful slurs, and drove off refusing to speak to us. 15 days later, and First Rate Van Lines has failed to resolve the issue and is refusing to offer a refund. They are claiming that I "refused service" and therefore do not qualify for a refund.

They accept CASH ONLY - which is the first indication of a scam. But I didn't know this when I signed - my mistake.

They offer NO REFUNDS.

They will NOT email you information to have things in writing - only call.

Reps promise to call you back, and never do. You have to chase them every time.

A rep told me: "We make no promises and no guarantees, and you signed that contract so this is on you."

Another rep said, "Whatever an individual says to you on the phone from the company doesn't matter - because your contract says that we make no promises."

If you are reading this, please - for your own sake - check the 1-star Google reviews. Read them. We all have the same story. Then check all the other "good" reviews. Click on the reviewers' names and you'll see they are all from Florida - exactly where the company is located. This is run by a sophisticated group of scam artists.

Long-distance move from Norfolk, VA to Des Plaines, IL

Scammers. Stay away - far away!!!

These guys are complete scammers. They quoted me $2700 from my move, collected close to $800 from me and stated that the quote will not change unless I add items. Their contract says it in bold. The movers came and said that the estimator underestimated the cost of the move and it would cost me $8000! That is $3000 more than my furniture was worth! So here I am having to move out of the house due to a closing, And them telling me that either I pay the 8000 or they cannot move my furniture. I called my realtor and luckily I was able to figure something out but they still have my money, they are complete scammers, and then they have the audacity to tell me that maybe my furniture was bulky.. Check out the reviews on Google. It is the same words over and over and over again which means that they are getting fake reviews as well. Stay away from them I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as well as every single news agency there is.

Long-distance move from Kansas to Florida

Tripled the cost!

First quote from First Rate Van Lines was $4,500, then they made a typo and changed it to $5451, now $10,000! They are a marketing scam only, not a shipper. They spam out your inquiry to dozens of companies that have no idea what was quoted. Then First Rate Van Lines steals that money - none of it goes to the shipper. They stuck me for $2,500 bucks and I never shipped a thing. Stay AWAY!!!!

Long-distance move from Washington to Arizona

First Rate Van Lines

Stay away from first rate Van lines, They quoted a bid and when the mover showed up it doubled. 1) added additional $400. for bulk item when it was clearly identified as a bulky item during bid request. Representative should of informed customer at that time, but with held fee, they also didn’t include packing material. Then they (the movers) added more cost for special packing boxes for our paintings which was already covered in the original bid. And when I asked about a refund they said I would forfeit my $2500 deposit I should’ve known when it was a wire transfer something wasn’t quite right. It is my opinion that they lowball their bid and when the movers show up they jack the price Also

be aware of their surcharges and fees.

Our move from NJ to AZ

Terrible service. Everyone from the first salesman to every manager and owner of the actual trucking company that moves your furniture, ALL LIARS. They told me in April that to have my furniture by move in day of June 4, they needed everything by May 27. Short story version...they picked up on May 27 and the furniture got there on June 21st!!! Those 2 1/2 weeks were full of lies from everyone as to where my stuff was. Just disgusting what they do to people. DO NOT USE First Rate Van Lines!!!

Long-distance move from Bloomington, IL to Bradenton, FL

SCAMMERS

Hired this company, to move me from IL to FL. So far I have paid $3,000. Scheduled pickup was 6/21 or 6/22 at the latest. Initial estimate was about this much for complete move. Then received a call the morning of the 22nd from a “driver” asking for a couple thousand cash on pick up and the same on delivery. I told him I would not pay in cash and already paid 1/2 for pick up to the company and wanted to know who I paid. He said he would check and get back to me. Now I’m trying to get my initial deposit back and can’t get a manager to speak to. When I do talk to a person I get a run around. “ No manager available”? I’m a senior widow and just wanted to live somewhere warm. I should be getting my furniture delivered today but instead I’m stressing over getting my furniture and belongings here to my condo and how to get my money back. Nice way to be treated after 43 years as a nurse, 50 years as a loving wife, 48 years as a mother and 18 as a grandmother. A life long friend to many.

Long-distance move from Corydon, IN to Cadillac, MI

Poor or no service

Moving from southern Indiana to N. Michigan we booked First Rate in Late May for a June 17 Pickup. On the appointed day no one showed or called. Several calls only resulted in being told a driver would contact us. No pick up or call on the 18th no word from First Rate. At 4:30pm on the 18th we got through to customer services who "assured us" that a Truck and Driver would be at our house for an early pickup on the 19th. No truck and no call on the 19th. No refund on the run around about cancellation policy no acceptance of responsibility for not living up to the agreed upon dates in the contract. No apology for never attempting to contact up or offer a reasonable explanation and or alternative.

Buyer beware of this company

Thieves who stand behind doing nothing

This company stole $900 from me, set me up with a terrible mover who called to say they were on their way on the wrong day, refused to come any other day, and then never even actually showed up. This company stood behind them and are refusing to issue a refund.

If you want to understand this company before you hired them read their better business complaints.

The reviews on this Google page are fake, I promise.

They’re thieves and should be shut down. Don’t trust a word they tell you.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid

If you're considering this company, do yourself a favor. Go to the ATM, take out $1000, flush it down the toilet, and call another moving company.

They don't call or show up on time, and calling customer service is a painful experience that ends in "we can't reach the carrier, and we can't figure out if they want even more money when they get there."
